Bloom’s Taxonomy

Benjamin Bloom (1913-1999), an educational psychologist identified several levels of learning. The quality or depth of learning can roughly be measured by how the learner can use new information.

The following chart restates Blooms stages of learning and offers a simple explanation of each stage.

Classroom Practice:

In the classroom, an effective teacher understands that measuring learning is not “one size fits all”. Rather, different tools are needed to measure the depth of comprehension, be it simply repeating information back, using it to solve a problem, or formulating new ideas.
